Андрей Кончаловский отмечает 75-летие. Он не только замечательный кинорежиссер, не только режиссер театра, работающий на сценах Москвы, Милана и Варшавы, не только драматург и публицист, но и постоянный автор нашей газеты. Общественные процессы в России его волнуют постоянно, и он активно делится своими размышлениями. Его статьи всегда полемичны, глубоко продуманы и неизменно становятся детонатором размышлений для читателей — в этом их особая ценность.
Мы связались с Андреем Кончаловским по скайпу — он сейчас в своем доме в Тоскане. Разговор шел о новых работах, о театре и кино, но обязательно выходил к волнующей его теме — куда идет Россия.
Наш собеседник сначала отмел традиционные для юбилея вопросы — его не это интересует:
С юбилеем! Как собираетесь его отметить?
Андрей Кончаловский: Да никак. Проведу мастер-класс, сделаю ретроспективу фильмов, чтобы их могло посмотреть новое поколение людей, для них моя «Сибириада» — уже античность… В октябре надеюсь выпустить «Трех сестер» в Театре им. Моссовета.
Ну, а сам день рождения?
Андрей Кончаловский: Здесь в Италии. Соберутся близкие мне люди, их немного, — такие, с кем можно молчать. Тостов не люблю, сам их не говорю…
Супруга, конечно, приготовит что-то особенное…
Андрей Кончаловский: Наверняка. Она ответственный человек и никогда не расслабляется. Но ты задаешь какие-то вопросы, тебе не свойственные.

Закон Божий веру не гарантирует
Вы свой блог назвали «Ужаснись самому себе», ссылаясь на мысль Маркса: чтобы двигаться вперед, народу нужно сначала ужаснуться своему положению. Как поживает ваш блог, налаживаются ли контакты с читателями?
Андрей Кончаловский: А контакт и необязателен. У большинства в Интернете мотыльковое сознание, и в этом общении всегда есть элемент эфемерного. Я там высказываюсь примерно раз в полгода — когда мне кажется, что есть некая точка бифуркации, и хочется по этому поводу высказаться. Например, я пришел к выводу, что Россия успешно вернулась в Средневековье, в свое естественное состояние архаического общества, завязанного на азиатских традициях. И когда у нас клянутся именами Достоевского и Толстого, то людям сложно представить, что именно эта среда, породившая таких художников, именно русскими и была уничтожена. Мы не отдаем себе в этом отчета, потому что европейский слой был содран в годы революции и советской власти. Ужасаться этому необходимо, но в том, что общество откатилось на средневековые позиции, я не вижу катастрофы. Происходящее, увы, естественно.
Вчера по одному из телеканалов передавали старый фильм «Пожнешь бурю» — об «обезьяньем процессе» в США, суде над учителем, рискнувшем преподавать учение Дарвина. И я еще раз подумал, как события в России 2012 года похожи на события 1925 года в США. Вы это тоже считаете естественным?
Андрей Кончаловский: Пушкин говорил, что правительство у нас — единственный европеец. Но этого последнего «единственного европейца» расстреляли в ипатьевском доме.
В чем же надежда?
Андрей Кончаловский: Архаическая культура не может долго существовать. Социолог и культуролог Игорь Яковенко написал замечательную книгу «Познание России. Цивилизационный анализ». Он тоже считает, что российская архаичная цивилизация идет к своему концу, а в России возникает новая европейская цивилизация, настроенная на восстановление корней. Этот процесс не будет безболезненным: архаик более всего боится дисбаланса и нестабильности. Хотя нестабильность — основа движения вперед. Но люди не виноваты, что их ценности архаичны, что у них никогда не было частной собственности. И я еще раз говорю: происходит естественный и необходимый процесс возвращения к состоянию Средневековья, которое неизбежно придет в конфликт с нарождающимся европейским сознанием. Это сознание в России возникло с перестройкой, когда ушла цензура и открылись информационные потоки. И возникло поколение, для которых не только Брежнев, но и Горбачев уже фигуры из далекого прошлого. На это поколение — надежда.
А кто написал в своем блоге «Ужаснись самому себе», что Россия приближается к демографической и моральной катастрофе, какой никогда не испытывала?
Андрей Кончаловский: Катастрофа — постоянное состояние для России. И это заблуждение, что Закон Божий в школе может обратить человека к религии. Он будет российскими школьниками восприниматься так же, как основы научного коммунизма — советскими студентами. И это иллюзия — думать, что распространение религиозности зависит от количества построенных храмов. Это манихейство, механическая попытка привить людям любовь к Богу. А Христос, как известно, дорожил только добровольно пришедшими учениками. Насильственно в религию никого не затащишь.
Итак, мы должны вернуться в допетровскую эпоху, после чего, оттолкнувшись ногами ото дна, получим шанс снова подняться на современный цивилизационный уровень — я правильно вас понял?
Андрей Кончаловский: На мой взгляд, это единственный путь. Мы вернулись к архаике, потому что пассивное большинство хочет стабильности, хотя эта стабильность иллюзорна: стабильный отстает и оказывается в аутсайдерах.
Вы возлагаете надежды на новое поколение. Но если в мире молодыми людьми движут амбиции — получить хорошее образование, стать классными специалистами, наработать авторитет и заработать хорошие деньги, то у нас молодые в массе живут сегодняшним днем и не стремятся к саморазвитию. Такого не было даже в советский период, когда доминировала тяга к науке и творчеству, молодые умели мечтать. Сегодня люди с амбициями понимают, что не смогут здесь реализоваться, и уезжают. Где же перспектива?
Андрей Кончаловский: А здесь нет перспективы: в данный момент социальные лифты не работают. Как бы ты ни был талантлив, твое место займет сын начальника. Это и есть признаки Средневековья. И, как я сказал, это на сегодняшний день естественно. Другой вопрос — что с этим делать? И я снова возвращаюсь к неизбежности появления нового Петра. Или Ататюрка. Или Ли Куан Ю. Для появления такого человека должна быть готова почва. А мы, повторяю, еще не ощутили полностью меру отставания России — интеллектуального, экономического, социального — от остального мира. По-видимому, для этого нужен настоящий катаклизм… У нас постоянно предлагают какие-то частные меры. Например, требуют запретить продавать алкоголь детям. Да ведь поздно уже! Они давно спились, 14-15-летние дети дуют пиво с водкой! Здесь мы наглядно видим неспособность власти реагировать на опережение. Отставание столь трагично, что дальше некуда.
Руки над городом
Андрей Кончаловский: И в наиболее близкой мне области — кино — происходит то же самое. Наш рынок стал плацдармом для Голливуда, и русского зрителя теперь интересует американское кино, а не кино, которое снимают в России.
А что, разве итальянцы смотрят итальянское кино?
Андрей Кончаловский: В Италии то же самое. В каком-то смысле был нанесен сознательный удар по итальянскому кино со стороны правых сил Италии — Бертолуччи говорил это мне еще двадцать лет назад. Ведь классическое итальянское кино было в основном коммунистическим. Большинство режиссеров делали остросоциальные картины. Чтобы уничтожить это кино, десятка два телеканалов стали бесплатно показывать американские фильмы — и великая киноиндустрия рухнула. Из мировых стран Китай и Франция наиболее преуспели, ставя правильные задачи для воспитания зрителя, способного интересоваться национальным искусством.
Вы хотите сказать, что упадок итальянского кино был результатом злого умысла? Мне казалось, что, с одной стороны, уходили великие мастера (а природа скупа на титанов), с другой, действовали экономические рычаги — стали показывать американские блокбастеры как наиболее востребованные публикой. Разве не так?
Андрей Кончаловский: Бернардо Бертолуччи утверждает, что это был злой умысел. Это был период, когда снимались такие картины, как «Следствие по делу гражданина вне всяких подозрений», «Долгий путь Италии в социализм», «Руки над городом». Кино было социальным двигателем — мощнейшим, острейшим. Висконти, Элио Петри — это же наотмашь! На их картины стояли очереди. И, говорил Бертолуччи, тогда христианские демократы задумали этот финт с телеканалами — и на социальные фильмы перестали ходить.
В своем блоге вы пишете, что сейчас главное — сказать народу эту горькую, жестокую правду о нем и его положении. Чтобы «ужаснуться самому себе». Вы пытались сказать эту правду в «Истории Аси Клячиной», но ее притормозила цензура. Через много лет вернулись к этой правде в фильме «Курочка Ряба». Ее тогда просто не захотели услышать.
Андрей Кончаловский: Это нормально: кино не может играть ту роль, которую должна сыграть политическая воля. В свое время жестокую правду сказал Петр I. Он безжалостно говорил про свой народ и про архаическую власть, с которой боролся. Вообще, нельзя двигаться вперед, если вся наша история изолгана. Она постоянно переписывалась в угоду тому или иному политическому движению. Есть замечательные русские мыслители, которые оказались оболганы и забыты, и есть деятели, которых возвели едва ли не в сан святых, а на самом деле они сыграли важную роль только в становлении Московского государства — при том, что оно вовсе не было вершинным достижением в европейском смысле. Это было тоталитарное рабовладельческое государство, подавляющее любую свободу, инициативу и саму идею самоуправления. То есть оно подавляло то, что в Европе развивалось. Даже в самые тяжелые времена инквизиции там развивалось самоуправление городов, а в России это было задавлено насмерть. И началось все с Александра Невского, точнее, с его отца — Ярослава. Сегодня официальная идеология говорит, что Московское царство было величайшим достижением в деле объединения земель. Но это было объединение на идеях рабовладельческого, страшного сословия опричников, единоначалия и единомыслия. Это был тоталитарный режим, от которого бежали все свободолюбивые люди. Дворяне бежали в Италию, холопы — к казакам, открещиваясь от самого слова «русский». Поэтому так важно вернуть истории истинность, чтобы понять, почему сегодня мы такие. Почему на исторических развилках мы брали себе в союзники врагов западной цивилизации? Почему мы выбирали в союзники пришельцев с Востока? Какими интересами руководствовались правители Руси? Это был сознательный выбор. Он и привел к тому, что мы и сегодня находимся в архаическом обществе.
Варвар в «Бентли»
В своем блоге вы сетуете, что вас обвиняют в русофобии. Но я мало знаю фильмов, которые были бы проникнуты более романтической любовью к России, чем ваша «Сибириада». Сейчас вы рассуждаете спокойно и как бы отстраненно — объективно. А в «Сибириаде» зрителя подхватывает эта волна нежности по отношению к этим людям и восторга перед этим невероятным гулким простором, перед мощью природы и характеров.
Андрей Кончаловский: По-моему, нет несовместимых вещей. Знаешь, Шопенгауэр сказал, что единственное доказательство существования Бога — это искусство. Гениально сказано. Но искусство эфемерно и делает человека лучше ровно на десять-пятнадцать минут. А потом ему наступят на ногу в троллейбусе — и все забыто. И все же момент прослушивания Мессы Баха делал человека бесконечно благодарным и верящим в то, что Бог — есть. Потому что искусство должно учить любви к человеку.
Если я наступлю кому-то на ногу в московском троллейбусе, я знаю, что мне скажут в ответ. Но вот во Франции в таких случаях обе стороны улыбнутся, извинятся и разойдутся почти друзьями. Другая аура, другое психологическое состояние общества. Без такого состояния у нас мир в семье не вернется. Возникает порочный круг — где выход?
Андрей Кончаловский: Вспомни «Янки при дворе короля Артура» Твена. Все европейские рыцари были бандиты, и Медичи — бандиты не меньшие, чем те, кто гнобили Магнитского. Я считаю, что общество наше не больно, просто оно в XVI веке. Как его оттуда вытащить — вот вопрос. Это будет больно — вытаскивать. Другое дело, что играет свою роль и сегодняшнее обилие информации, когда мы можем видеть и сравнивать жизнь людей в разных странах. Раньше отсутствие такой информации делало человека терпимым к невзгодам, а теперь он хочет всего и сразу, немедленно. Не понимая, что можно ехать в «Бентли» и быть абсолютнейшим варваром. К этическим ценностям, о которых ты говоришь, Франция шла несколько веков. У нас не было индоктринации социальных обязанностей. И причины лежат в истории России.
Если мы в XVI веке, то не можем же мы там, как волосок на лысине, быть в одиночестве. Какие страны составляют нам компанию?
Почти вся Африка, за исключением двух-трех стран. Но жители Африки от иудео-христианской диалектической модели еще дальше. И никто не удивляется тому, что в Африке нет по-настоящему свободных и активно развивающихся государственных структур. Чему же удивляться в России? Плеханов говорил о европеизированной части российского общества, что она живет в резервациях. А за их пределами — темная масса, которая вряд ли читала Пушкина и Достоевского.
Страшноватая картина: XVI век с атомной бомбой…
Андрей Кончаловский: Да, страшновато. Да, сложно. Но все равно это естественно. И очень важно представить себе, где, когда и как мы коснемся дна, когда придет этот человек, что он скажет и услышат ли его.
Он не может соткаться из воздуха. То, что называют оппозицией, изумляет отсутствием крупных личностей и серьезных идей.
Андрей Кончаловский: Сейчас если бы такая личность и возникла, ее никто не услышит. Семена должны упасть в разрыхленную почву. А почва сухая: большинство людей живет где-то в другом измерении. И пока пенсии платятся, народ будет молчать. Но стоит упасть пенсиям, а ценам на продукты — взлететь, и все сразу покатится.
Короли на унитазах
В октябре в театре Моссовета должны выйти «Три сестры» в вашей постановке…
Андрей Кончаловский: Причем с теми же артистами, с которыми я ставил «Дядю Ваню». И это будет диптих. А хотел бы сделать триптих: одни и те же артисты в одной декорации играют разные пьесы Чехова. Третьим, надеюсь, будет «Вишневый сад», но это еще надо дожить. А мечта моя — играть два спектакля подряд. С перерывом на перекус. Хотя это сложно: все заняты, устают. Но хотя бы два раза в год по воскресеньям устраивать «День с Чеховым»: утром — «Дядя Ваня», вечером — «Три сестры». Те же артисты играют полярные роли: утром — старуха-няня в «Дяде Ване», вечером — Ольга в «Трех сестрах».
А недавно вышел и «Борис Годунов» Мусоргского — в Турине.
Андрей Кончаловский: Да, а затем мы перенесли его в Валенсию. В будущем году он пойдет в Бари, а потом надеюсь привезти его в Москву.
Работа в опере — это вы так реализуете свою первую любовь и первую профессию музыканта?
Андрей Кончаловский: Не знаю, какая первая, какая вторая, но просто интересно работать в разных жанрах: игровое кино, драматический театр, опера, документалистика… Я бы это назвал любопытством к освоению материала: он сопротивляется, а мне надо его укротить. Процесс очень интересный. И даже образование здесь не главное: можно быть музыкально образованным, но выпускать бездарные постановки, а человек, не знающий нот, может оказаться гениальным оперным режиссером. Патрис Шеро музыке не учился, но его «Кольцо нибелунгов» было прорывом в новую эстетику. С него начались современные интерпретации классических опер — он первым это сделал логично и убедительно. Но вообще-то режиссер в опере — существо второстепенное. Если плохо поют и оркестр плохо играет — что бы ни творилось на сцене, это не имеет значения. Режиссер здесь целиком зависит от музыкального качества спектакля. Оперой можно наслаждаться, даже будучи слепым, но нельзя ей наслаждаться, будучи глухим.
Но иногда кажется, что оперу ставят глухие режиссеры.
Андрей Кончаловский: Да, и это вопрос эстетики постмодернистского искусства, о котором еще в 80-е годы пророчески писал Солженицын в своем выступлении: «Игра на струнах пустоты». Ничего не поделаешь: идет процесс разрыва с великими традициями мирового искусства. Разрыв этот болезненный, потому что искусство строится на художественных ассоциациях, и если они подменены ассоциациями политическими или другими какими-то ребусами, и нужно разгадывать, что хочет сказать режиссер, — это, на мой взгляд, выдает страх человека неспособного сделать просто и при этом так, чтобы волновало. Такая тенденция есть и в изобразительном искусстве, и в драме. Помню испанскую постановку оперы Верди «Бал-маскарад»: король сидел на унитазе и читал газету. Если закрыть глаза и слушать Верди — все прекрасно, но увидишь короля на унитазе — не совпадает! «Катерина Измайлова» Шостаковича еще допускает такие вольности, но когда Моцарта играют в Макдоналдсе — наложение музыкального смысла на визуальный не дает никакого дополнительного качества.
Вы, по-моему, единственный российский режиссер, который одинаково активно работает на родине и за рубежом. Что стоило бы перенять нам из западного опыта и чем может быть полезен миру опыт российского кино и театра?
Андрей Кончаловский: Надо помнить, что весь русский театр возник, когда Петр насильственно обратил Россию лицом к Европе. До этого театр на Руси считался бесовскими игрищами, за них пороли. Так что театр — европейская форма самовыражения, она пришла из античности. Конечно, русский театр — явление выдающееся, такое же, как Достоевский, Толстой и Чехов. Но все это — результат петровских реформ: не было бы Петра — не было бы Чайковского. Великие российские достижения в этой области были именно в той среде, которую в ХХ веке уничтожила революция. Чего не хватает русскому театру? Вот европейцам свойственна очень тщательная работа над профессией. Еще Чехов мечтал: «Русским бы артистам — да работоспособность французов!» На западе относятся к русским традициям психологического театра с огромным уважением, с обожанием, и наше влияние на западное искусство было бы много сильнее, если бы Россия не рассматривала Запад в качестве врага. Но Россия за всю свою историю все время противопоставляет себя Западу. И пока мы будем видеть в Западе врага — ничего хорошего не будет. Россия родилась как европейская цивилизация. Она пришла с Запада, и до XIII века был с Западом колоссальный культурный обмен. Другое дело, что из политических и других соображений Россия в союзники выбирала всегда Восток.
Совершенно согласен. Но мой вопрос о традициях русского театра связан и с тем, что очень активизировались противники русской модели театра репертуарного. Они считают, что она себя изжила, и выход — во внедрении американской модели «проектного» театра.
Андрей Кончаловский: Конечно, театр несет на себе балласт, созданный еще в советский период: огромные штаты, множество артистов, не занятых в спектаклях. Это большие социальные проблемы, но они не имеют отношения к самой идее репертуарного театра. Дело в том, что американская модель — мертва. Она в принципе не в состоянии себя поддерживать. А чаще всего то, что называют американской моделью, — не театр, а шоу. Его играют год, два, три, пока ходят зрители. Артисты в нем взаимозаменяемы. Это машина для зарабатывания денег — в Нью-Йорке ее зовут Бродвеем, в Лондоне — Уэст-эндом. В ее рамках вряд ли создашь независимое экспериментальное искусство. Режиссер, который пытается себя найти, вынужден ездить по городам и весям: десять спектаклей в одном городе, десять — в другом… Это, в сущности, бродячий театр типа средневекового «театра на колесах». То же — в Италии: пять спектаклей в Риме, потом по четыре в Милане и Венеции… Но это возможно в Италии, где расстояния небольшие. Вот у меня был оперный спектакль в Парме: актеры приезжали из Милана и Рима — садится в электричку, поет в Парме и уезжает обратно. И здесь большое количество буржуазии, готовой смотреть эти спектакли. В России это немыслимо: другие расстояния, другое состояние театров и зрителей. В Варшаве, когда я ставил «Лира» с Даниэлем Ольбрыхским, мы играли его три месяца подряд. А в Москве сыграть «Короля Лира» сорок раз подряд в принципе невозможно.
Почему?
Андрей Кончаловский: Другие традиции. У каждого московского театра — своя аудитория, свои фанаты, они постоянно ходят на спектакли. Но если, скажем, Театр Моссовета будет играть только один спектакль — он за несколько вечеров эту аудиторию исчерпает. И второе: в условиях массового производства театр хиреет. В Лондоне еще есть постоянная театральная публика, но уже где-нибудь в Манчестере с театром значительно хуже. В Америке театра нет вообще, я это утверждаю. В Лондоне часто спектакли ставят с прицелом потом повезти его в Нью-Йорк. Вот поставили «Гамлета» с Джудом Лоу — и я прочитал наблюдение одного критика о парочке из Мичигана, которая сожалела, что в конце Гамлета убили, потому что иначе они могли бы посмотреть сиквел. Вот вам уровень театральной публики. И судьба артиста сейчас тяжелейшая и в Америке и в Европе: он вынужден браться за любую работу. Так что театр если и есть в Европе, то прежде всего в Германии и во Франции, где сильна государственная поддержка. В России же успешный театр живет все-таки не за счет субсидий, а за счет проданных билетов. Короче говоря, я уверен, что репертуарный театр в России совершенно необходим, но артистов надо брать на договор, который можно расторгнуть и тем избежать нарастания «балласта». Репертуарный театр может быть великим, каким был театр Товстоногова, а может — посредственным. Все-таки основа театра — режиссер.
Однако напоследок вспомним все-таки о славном юбилее. Когда планируете завершить праздник и приступить к работе? И в чем работа будет заключаться?
Андрей Кончаловский: А праздника и не будет, будет работа. Пишу сценарий, о нем пока рано говорить. Работаю над большим кинороманом, ставлю «Трех сестер», потом с этим спектаклем поеду на гастроли, хочу сделать полудокументальный полуигровой фильм о русском деревенском почтальоне, снять «Глянец-2», художественный фильм о Рахманинове… Замыслов много, и я хочу их осуществить.
